Traditional Chinese Medicine, TCM for short, is widely used in Asia as a means of alternative medicine. While it is used to treat common ailments such as gastrointestinal discomfort, chronic pain and allergic rhinitis, TCM is gaining more popularity as young couples seek alternative help for pregnancy.
Expand the section to find out more on what diagnostic methods TCM physicians use during a consultation.
TCM uses the diagnostic method:
Observation- observation of the body which includes movement and posture, vitality and tongue
Auscultation and Olfaction - listening to any sounds produced by the patient and smelling for any odour
Inquiring - asking patients for their symptoms
Palpation - Examining the pulse
TCM physicians use this diagnostic method to gather information about your body, evaluate your body constitution and provide a TCM diagnosis syndrome based on this information. TCM herbs and acupuncture can then be prescribed and catered to you based on your body constitution and TCM diagnosis syndrome.
